The Dragons hosted Bracknell's newly created third team, the Pyros at a blustery Ham Ground on Sunday the 8th of May.
With week 3's planned matchup in Bracknell rained out, Dragons faced a very unknown team. However, the result would not be in doubt after the first inning.
Per Nilsson-Eklöf made short order of the Pyro's first three batters, getting out of the inning with 11 pitches (9 for strikes).
The Dragons then unleashed on Pyro's young but talented hurler Bernard Scheuerman, scoring 7 runs before the end of the inning.
Pyros came back defensively and held the Dragons scoreless in the second before a 4 run third and a 13 run fourth inning put the contest out of reach.
The Pyros showed that they continue develop young talent with Scheuerman and GB national softball junior Amy Trask both taking stints on the mound and behind the plate. With some more experience for the newcomers the Bracknell squad should be able to progress as the season goes on.
For the Dragons, Stuart Hendry and Joby Thomas both pitched scoreless innings in their league debut on the mound and Alvin Michael continued his strong performance offensively, scoring 3 runs from 1 hit and 3 walks in 5 plate appearances. Newcomers Mike Levett, Joel Bamber and Jon Guyett all produced at the plate, showing that the Dragons are creating depth across the lineup.
"Despite some injuries and absences meaning we had a much more depleted squad today, we continued to play fundamentally sound baseball with production throughout the lineup. We go on our first road trip next weekend which should be an interesting challenge", said Manager Nicholas Hadley.
Dragons third win in a row puts them alone at the top of the BBF Single A division as the only undefeated team in the league, and they hope to extend the streak as they travel to league newcomers Tonbridge on Sunday the 16th of May.
