RICHMOND — After a come-from-behind victory against the last-place Brentwood Stags on Sunday the 25th, the Knights faced their toughest opponents of the season yet – Poole. For probably the first time all season, they played crisp, vigorous baseball to take both ends of the double-header 9-1 and 14-1 securing the AA South Pennant and spot in the playoffs hoping for home field advantage throughout.
“The scores make it look easy…but we played pretty solid baseball throughout the whole day, particularly in the outfield.” Knights manager Lally said.
A key factor in the victories was an excellent turnout from the team ensuring a “deep and solid squad”. As they have exhibited throughout the season, the Knights were able to produce strong offensive numbers with significant contributions from Dave Keynes (5 for 6 with a HR and 7 RBI’s on the day) and newcomer Nick Osborne (3 for 5 on the day). Keynes added to his offensive exploits 9 fine innings on the mound giving up no earned runs, 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 10. Lally came on in the 3rd inning of game two and held the Piranhas to three scoreless innings to ensure the victory.
Next up for the Knights is their season finale against Croydon in another double header at home. An exhibition game against cross-club rivals the Dragons on the 14th serves as the Knights’ final tune-up before the playoffs begin on the 21st against the Windsor Bears.
